9 New (& Not So New) Jamaican Youtubers with binge-worthy content you should be subscribed to

Youtube is currently one of the largest digital platforms in the world. There’s no doubt about it. Since it’s launch in 2006, the Youtube platform has grown into a mammoth of a platform, catering to a wide array of interests and experiences. And since the pandemic and many of us have been in quarantine, I’ve noticed a surge in the number of channels and content creators emerging on the scene. Persons who probably always wanted to start a channel, suddenly have the time on their hands to explore their interests and see if this Youtube thing is truly for them. And the Youtube scene in Jamaica was no different.

Following the advice of staunch advocates of the Jamaican Youtube scene like Petit-Sue Divinitii, Quite Perry and Rushcam, who continue to encourage and advise persons that there is enough space on the platform for everyone; I’ve noticed that a new batch of Jamaican Youtubers have emerged and making their own marks on the creator scene. Creating relatable content to the Jamaican reality and for the diaspora viewers who are possibly looking for just a little something that reminds them of home. It’s nice when you can log in and watch content from creators that look like you, sound like you and are living the same place you do. These creators are showing that despite Jamaica’s seemingly antiquated views on technology, there are many Jamaicans who are making strides towards the digital revolution in Jamaica.

So if you’re looking for some fabulous content from some wonderful creators, then check out these Jamaican Youtubers who are killing the game in 2020. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to like, comment, share, subscribe and hit that notification bell.

1. Daneel Eve

She’s one of the latest newcomers on the Youtube scene but Daneel has already amassed a bit of a following due to her down -to-earth personality and complete realness in her videos. Her videos are like having a conversation with a friend who's giving you an interesting life update and some great advice on how to update your life too. She's honest and isn’t afraid to tell you what’s really going on. Not to mention her hustle is unmatched and her entrepreneurial spirit is absolutely inspiring. I finds her vlogs and sitdown chats are fun and relatable, her family seems awesome and she just feels like the type of girl you can just sit down and have a good par and a great chat with about anything.

2. Dutchess Charm

Can we just stop to appreciate her beats every time she comes on camera?!!! This girl really serves! Her makeup looks are on point and beyond and make you wish your skills were at that level. But standing firm in the motto and advice to her viewers ‘Make sure to be a beautiful soul and not just a gorgeous face’, this beauty goes beyond makeup looks to give you amazing content you didn’t know you needed in your life. Her storytimes and reaction videos keep you highly entertained but my personal favourite videos are the ones in her ‘Crime & Conviction’ series where she explores true crime incidents that involve Jamaicans both ah yaad (here in Jamaica) and abroad. I must admit as a True Crime lover, it’s really refreshing to find content that is about my home country.

3. Xoxo Denille Rene

Dubbed the Youtube content queen of consistency; travel blogger and one half of the Podcast duo on Netschat, Denille is no stranger to being in front of the camera and creating content for days. But her personal Youtube channel or as she calls it her ‘Honest Tube’ is a little different. She invites subscribers and supporters into her life and really give a behind the scenes look at who she is and what she’s about. From her absolutely hilarious storytimes, belly-in-stitches mukbangs and a host of friends who not only match her vibe but are absolutely funny as well, this channel is packed with content that will usually leave you in a good mood at the end of the day.

4. Nets Jenner

Twitter fave, Podcast Extraordinaire and the other half of the Netschat podcast duo, Netania has also branched out to create her own Youtube channel. Let me just tell you, the same entertaining personality you get when you listen or watch the netschat podcast is the same energy you get on her youtube channel. This girl is honest plus tax and funny times infinity. Her vlogs are chalked full of funny quips and expressions, and her open and honest convos allow you to see a deeper side to the gangster personality we know Netania as. And with a peek into her family and friends, you finally learn a bit more of who she is. Plus, mi nah lie them funny too!

5. Rochielin

Arguably one of the sweetest personalities on Youtube, Rochielin seems like that sweetheart friend you just love to have a friend around. From her house hunting vlogs where you can get an idea of the cost of housing in Jamaica to her travels in and around town, Rochielin’s content is focused on her life and the things she loves. Whether it is taking you on a try to the Jamaican countryside to see how they live, a scenic road trip to a waterfall or travelling to the hustle and bustle of Downtown Kingston and shopping around, her videos give her audience a true introduction to the Jamaican lifestyle.

6. Down Di Road

Beyond the beaches and hotels, Jamaica is a cultural mecca and travel haven unlike any other. With so many hidden nooks and untravelled crannies scattered across the island, Down Di Road is the go to channel for exploring beyond the Tourist board-esque advertisements of what Jamaica is. This channel is one of my absolute favourite travel and culture channels. Video quality is A-1, adventure is top notch and the group is fun and entertaining. Their videos draw you in and immerse you into the experience. They introduce you to places you’ve never heard of before and soothe your wanderlust until you get your own opportunity to travel out. Down Di Road to me is a movement. It’s what traveling Jamaica should be and how the island should be seen. Let’s face it, they are the cool kids you always wanted to hang out with and go on a par (* Jamaican slang for outing) with.

P.S. I’m still waiting to go on my trip with the Down Di Road crew and I’m definitely going to cop one of those shirts soon.

Then look no further than The Smile Fairy’s channel. She gives you great advice and insider knowledge on what it’s like to be a Dental Hygienist in Jamaica. From how to become one to how much they make and everything in between. 8. Miles Guide

You know the girl who’s living your vacation dreams and showing you what you should be doing to really explore the world? Well Sarah Miles is that girl. She is the definition of #travelgoals and she has the videos to prove it. But before that green-eyed monster gets the best of you and you start to think she’s just another ‘influencer showing off’, Sarah’s warm, funny, down-to-earth and just overall wonderful personality is sure to win you over. From her impromptu beach cleanups if she notices the place she visits is dirty and her mukkle thrift charity pop-up thrift shop where she encourages sustainability, Sarah shows that her appreciation for the environment goes beyond just an instagram-worthy shot and Youtube videos and is more focused on the overall well-being of Mother Earth.

9. Viv HairTherapy

Vivianna is a veteran Jamaican Youtuber and when you watch her videos you can see why. After years in the game, she has amassed a following of almost half a million subscribers and her top video having over 12 million views, she is definitely one of Jamaica’s top Youtubers. Vivianna goes beyond the usual hair tutorials and hair care tips and really has fun with her hair. She’s not afraid to try any hair related products or take on a seemingly impossible challenge. She’s always willing to step outside the box and really get creative with her videos. Not to mention, her personality is pretty great. She definitely keeps you engaged and entertained while she tries whatever new thing she’s up to on her channel.
