I’m sure by now the heat has tapped you on the shoulder and reminded you that the summer season is in full swing. One thing that I love about the summer season is all the excuses and reasons to curl up and read a good book. ‘Oh it’s too hot to go outside so I’ll just stay in and read.’ or ‘What makes a better companion to a day at the beach than a good book? Hmm…’ Which ever reason you choose, a summer read is an excellent addition to any summer vacation season.

Summer reading list

As for your fun summer read…. We all know the feeling of a good book. The way a story can transport you to a totally different reality for hours on end. The book that can cool you down during the hottest of days; warm you up during the coldest of nights; and make you laugh until you want to pee yourself with hilarious quips, stories and jokes. The summer is the perfect time to grab a book from that ever-growing TBR list that seems to be piling up on our bookshelves, nightstands or e-libraries. It’s the perfect setting for a fabulous reading venture.

If however, you have already devoured all the books you have (you’re my hero and I salute you) and are currently looking for a book or too to close out your summer holidays; then look no further. Your girl has got you covered. Who knows? Your next favorite book could be hidden in this list just waiting for you to find it. So without further ado, let’s get to it.

1. The Royal Delivery by Melanie Summers

Summer reading list

“After one year of marriage, Crown Prince Arthur and his lovely, albeit accident-prone wife, Princess Tessa, are preparing to bring an heir to the tiny kingdom of Avonia. With all eyes on Tessa, she’s determined to be one of those fabulously fit pregnant women. She could do it too if it weren’t for all the freshly-baked scones. Soon dubbed the Cowntess of Camembert, Tessa wants to go into hiding until after the baby is born, but royal life won’t wait, and she needs to figure out how to make the best of a desperate situation and win the people over once and for all.”

If you have been following the blog for a while then you know that one of my faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavourite book series is the Crown Jewel Series. Don’t believe it? Then check out my reviews on the first 2 books The Royal Treatment and The Royal Wedding.

Now Melanie Summers is back with the final book in the series. This book promises to be a laugh-out-loud conclusion to an amazing adventure with Tess and Arthur.

2. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

Big-LIttle-Lites

“Perfect families, perfect houses, perfect lives.

Three mothers, Jane, Madeline and Celeste appear to have it all . . . but do they? They are about to find out just how easy it is for one little lie to spiral out of control.

But a minor incident involving the children of all three women rapidly escalates: playground whispers become spiteful rumours until no one can tell the truth from the lies.“

This is the first book that introduced me to the world that is Liane Moriarty (A side note: Every time I think Moriarty; I think Sherlock Holmes’ foe. Am I the only one?). Anyways my introduction to the book came during my hunt for a new Tv series to devour. After sending out the beacon for ideas, my friend Marie from Backstory Beauty

answered the call with the suggestion of Big Little Lies. I literally fell in love with the show. And when I found out it was a book too….. Whoo whee, I knew I had to give it a gander and the rest as you say, is history. Find out what happens when a quiet town is rocked by a huge secret.

3. The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand

Summer reading list

“It’s Nantucket wedding season, also known as summer-the sight of a bride racing down Main Street is as common as the sun setting at Madaket Beach. The Otis-Winbury wedding promises to be an event to remember: the groom’s wealthy parents have spared no expense to host a lavish ceremony at their oceanfront estate.

But it’s going to be memorable for all the wrong reasons after tragedy strikes: a body is discovered in Nantucket Harbor just hours before the ceremony-and everyone in the wedding party is suddenly a suspect. As Chief of Police Ed Kapenash interviews the bride, the groom, the groom’s famous mystery-novelist mother, and even a member of his own family, he discovers that every wedding is a minefield-and no couple is perfect.”

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I love a good mystery. I love trying to try fit the pieces together and figure out whodunit. Bonus points and feeling great always comes when I’m right. Filled with zestful characters intermittent with profuse suspense woven throughout’ this book promises to be a summer book that leaves everyone engrossed.

4. When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

Summer reading list

“Welcome to Greenwich, Connecticut, where the lawns and the women are perfectly manicured, the Tito’s and sodas are extra strong, and everyone has something to say about the infamous new neighbor.

Let’s be clear: Emily Charlton does not do the suburbs. After leaving Miranda Priestly, she’s been working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars, but recently, Emily’s lost a few clients. She’s hopeless with social media. The new guard is nipping at her heels. She needs a big opportunity, and she needs it now.”

I have always been a big fan of The Devil Wears Prada movie; so this sequel to the book turned movie that stole our hearts is definitely sounding like a treat to me.

5. Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella

Summer reading list

“After being together for ten years, Sylvie and Dan have a comfortable home, fulfilling jobs, beautiful twin girls, and communicate so seamlessly, they finish each other’s sentences. They have a happy marriage and believe they know everything there is to know about each other. Until it’s casually mentioned to them that they could be together for another sixty-eight years… and panic sets in.

They quickly decide to create little surprises for each other, to keep their relationship fresh and fun. But in their pursuit of Project Surprise Me – anything from unexpected gifts to restaurant dates to photo shoots – mishaps arise with disastrous and comical results.

Gradually, the surprises turn to shocking discoveries. And when a scandal from the past is uncovered, they begin to wonder if they ever really knew each other after all…”

What better way to end the summer than with a fun, light-hearted read from the genius that created ‘The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic aka Confessions of a Shopaholic’?!

There you have it loves. A few summer reads sure to make your beach day as cool and relaxing as ever. I know summer is slowly coming to a halt, but it’s never too late for a great summer read.

So how about you? Are there any books you are trying to read this summer? Do you have any recommendations for me? I’d love to hear from you.

LOVE,

NELLA
